As a few people have asked what I’m currently listening to, here’s the next installment of what’s gracing the Turner turntable right now, in no particular order…….

Serge Gainsbourg – Gold (madman who became a national hero in France, sample his trademark musical debauchery)

Economics – Economics (Canadian bedroom pop, file under relaxing)

Les McCann & Eddie Harris – Swiss Movement (live from 68 Montreaux Jazz Festival, seminal soul jazz)

The OKeh Rhythm & Blues Story (classic, vintage history of R&B)

Beach House – Devotion (dreamy, haunting lo-fi)

The Birthday Party – Prayers on Fire (nick cave’s 1st band, when I feel like screaming, this is what I listen to, he just screams better than me)

13th Floor Elevators – The Psychedelic World of the 13th Floor Elevators (Roky Erickson and his fellow travelers travel from 60′s Texas into inner/outer space)

Townes Van Zandt – Delta Blues Momma (Van Zandt’s lyrics and melodies were filled with a kind of haunting truth and beauty)

Ryuichi Sakamoto – Sweet Revenge (ex leader of Yellow Magic Orchestra lush, sophisticated pop)

New PJ Harvey & John Parish

The ever imaginative PJ Harvey has teamed up with John Parish again for another new album, A Woman A Man Walked By, available to us general punters at the end of March. The 10-song collection was produced by Harvey, Parish, and Flood.

I was able to obtain a copy of the one of the new songs from the record, Black Hearted Love. I hope it’s available on vinyl, as this track has that wonderful, relentless, almost lazy guitar fuzz that seems so effortless and obvious….after you’ve heard it.

Enjoy, and go buy/download the collection asap. Support those artists who make this world a better, more interesting place.

Thanks to all who responded, seems as if I gave everyone too much help though……

It was Noel Coward singing one of his own songs “I Like America”, from this 1956 LP.

Have another one lined up that is fiendishly hard…..Happy 2009!
