Lux Interior R.I.P.
Lux Interior left us earlier today. He was the lead singer and inspiration behind The Cramps.
I saw The Cramps twice. But the 1st time was in Edinburgh, at the Odeon, in the summer of 1979. They supported The Police. Most of the crowd hated them. I had never seen anything like it in my life. The Cramps were from outer space. I was spellbound. The Cramps churned out this swampy, psychedelic, psychobilly noise. It was incredible. And the whirling dervish at the center was Lux Interior. Stripped to the waist, menacing, dripping with sweat, stalking the stage. Crouching, channeling his inner Iggy, with this garage, sonic attack swirling around, it was bloody marvelous.
RIP Mr. Lux Interior. You were very alive, and thank you. You made me feel alive too.
John, you make me wish I’d been there. What a vivid description and eulogy.
